Operating Systems

In this course, I deepened my understanding of how operating systems work. We started with the basics, learning about the essential components of an operating system and its role in linking hardware and software. We covered critical functions like managing processes, memory, file systems, and handling input/output operations.


We explored various operating systems, such as Windows, macOS, and Linux distributions, with a focus on Ubuntu, which we ran on a virtual machine. This practical experience was key to understanding operating system management and configuration.


Another major part of the course was a team project, in which each group chose different topics. My group was sold on Multimedia systems within operating systems. For our project, we investigated how modern systems handled diverse media formats such as text, image, audio, and video, and tackled the challenges in processing these formats. Our project covered the evolution and importance of multimedia, its use in various fields like social media, gaming, and education, and technical elements like display devices, storage solutions, and network considerations. This thorough study provided a deep understanding of multimedia's role in technology and daily life.


As the assistant team leader for my group, I played a significant role in writing and editing our comprehensive document on Multimedia systems. My contribution focused on integrating our collective research and insights, ensuring a cohesive and thorough exploration of how operating systems are designed to handle multimedia data. This task was a pivotal part of my learning experience, helping me blend theoretical knowledge with practical application.

This paper on Multimedia Systems was written by my group to fulfill a research and writing requirement for the Operating Systems course at Mercy College. At the time, it was the most extensive paper that either I or any of my group members had written. I would like to thank Professor Ordonez for this challenging assignment.
